Why Test for Aluminium?

Aluminium is the most abundant metal in the Earth's crust and we're all exposed to small amounts daily through food, water, and consumer products. While the body normally excretes aluminium efficiently, problems can arise with high occupational exposure, certain medical conditions (especially kidney disease), or long-term use of aluminium-containing medications. Elevated aluminium levels can affect the brain, bones, and blood-forming cells.

Important — Aluminium Exposure vs Sensitivity

Blood vs Urine: Blood aluminium measures current circulating levels and is the standard test for assessing aluminium status and toxicity. Urine aluminium reflects recent excretion and is often used for occupational biological monitoring. Blood is generally preferred for clinical assessment.

No Fasting Required: You can eat and drink normally before this test. Dietary Note: Aluminium can be present in everyday foods. Recent dietary intake may influence urine aluminium levels. For the most accurate assessment, maintain your normal diet — your doctor can interpret results in context. For Sensitivity / Allergy Concerns: This test measures systemic aluminium levels, not aluminium allergy. If you suspect a contact allergy, you'll need a skin patch test from a dermatologist. Sample Collection: Follow the kit instructions carefully. Return your sample using the prepaid envelope on the same day as collection where possible. Avoid posting on a Friday or before a bank holiday.
